Boston is known for its Marathon that is the world's oldest annual marathon. In 2007 more than 20,000 runners completed the race. The Marathon begins in Hopkinton and runs through Brookline into Boston and ends in front of the Boston Public Library, a fitting location because of its origins.

Besides the Marathon, Boston and Cambridge are known for the crew regatta, the Head of The Charles. It takes place in October each year.
